Kinesiology & the pendulum

You may already use a pendulum, but you’re wondering:

1       How can I use the pendulum more productively? Or

2       Why does it sometimes give me such peculiar responses?

Or maybe you’re not yet using a pendulum but would like to learn how.

Alternatively, you are interested in kinesiology or energy therapy generally, and are wondering how you can do it for yourself.

I’m a coach & therapist, and I also train health professionals and people interested in self-development. I’ve been in practice for over eleven years now. For the last seven of those years I have been exploring putting together these two things: the pendulum (which I first learned about when doing my hypnotherapy training); and kinesiology (which I use extensively in my practice).

Advantages and disadvantages of kinesiology

The great thing about kinesiology is that, through its tool of muscle testing, it allows me (as therapist and coach) to:

1       Identify the problems (stresses) an individual has.

2       Find where they come from. And

3       Determine the best ways to resolve them.

The problem with kinesiology is that you need a therapist or person trained in muscle testing to work with you. Some people learn how to muscle test themselves, but it’s very difficult, and it’s controversial whether we can really muscle test ourselves accurately. I, for one, am not able to muscle test myself.

Advantages and disadvantages of the pendulum

The great thing about the pendulum is that (by swinging in one direction for yes and another for no through unconscious movements in the arm or shoulder) it allows your unconscious to communicate directly with you. What a fantastic tool! Why isn’t everyone using it?

Well, the problem with the pendulum is – as anyone who uses it knows – that it can give you unreliable and even completely loony responses. So lots of people who have experimented with it give it up as useless.

Combining the pendulum with kinesiology

So here were two potentially fantastic tools (kinesiology; the pendulum) that each had what seemed to me to be a fundamental flaw: you can’t do kinesiology on yourself; you can’t get consistent and reliable results from the pendulum.

I wondered whether, by putting the two together, the flaws in each would be eliminated. That the pendulum would enable me to do kinesiology on myself by accessing my unconscious communications in a different way than muscle testing; and that the discipline of kinesiology would ensure that the pendulum produced reliable and consistent results.

So I explored what would happen if I put the two technologies together and experimented doing kinesiology self-therapy with the pendulum instead of muscle testing. The results were exactly as I had anticipated: using a pendulum allowed me to do self-kinesiology without the need for muscle testing; and it allowed me to use the pendulum reliably to produce meaningful results.

Motives to write the book

This was so exciting that I wanted to share this information. The highly effective therapy of energy kinesiology is little known. Part of the reason for this is that kinesiology is not something you can do for yourself. It requires the help of someone else who has probably spent years learning the art of muscle testing.

So any books for lay people about kinesiology in the past have either been ‘introductory’ (telling you the benefits you would receive from it rather than telling you how to do it), or fairly rudimentary in the techniques (called ‘corrections’ in kinesiology) that they presented. The primary exception is Donna Eden’s excellent Energy Medicine. However, Donna’s book presents great techniques for general circumstances, but doesn’t teach self-therapy.

Consequently, kinesiology is relatively unknown. And many of the people who have come across kinesiology associate it only with testing for sensitivities and allergies to food and supplements and various other substances.

I wanted people to know how fantastic kinesiology can be as a tool for healing and resolving all kinds of problems, including past traumas, and to be able to do it for themselves.

I wrote The Therapist Within You so that anyone can do self-therapy with kinesiology. It is the only book that makes available kinesiology corrections in a comprehensive form that can be used for self-therapy. In other words this is the only book to teach you how to resolve specific problems and past traumas using kinesiology techniques – just as you may do with a highly trained kinesiologist. Rather than muscle testing, you are taught to use the pendulum to identify imbalances and stresses and find the best resolution.

EFT: an offshoot of kinesiology

Lots of people are now aware of the therapy Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), which involves tapping the end points of various meridians. EFT is a brilliant therapy – versatile, effective and simple to learn. But EFT becomes far more effective when used in conjunction with the pendulum.

And how much more powerful for people also to learn the parent therapy, kinesiology, so they can get to the heart and source of problems, and balance their energies in an even more thorough and rigorous way than EFT can do.

The pendulum mode

But I might not have written the book at all. Although much of the material here is familiar to practising kinesiologists, and many of the exercises and corrections are what you might expect to experience from a therapist, some of the material is entirely original and not found anywhere else.

Among the original material is my conception of the relationship between feelings and emotions; the dawn of consciousness; and a few finger modes.

One of these, the pendulum mode, was a decisive factor in my decision to write the book. One of the problems people experience when using the pendulum is how easy it is for conscious desire to overrule the communications of the unconscious, so that the pendulum gives the answer you desire rather than the answer your unconscious wants to give you. The solution to this is the pendulum mode, which I discovered in 2001. When you use the pendulum mode your conscious desire is no longer able to override your unconscious communication. When you use the pendulum mode you get an honest communication from your unconscious, rather than what you consciously desire.

As well as the chapters on how to get a pendulum to work accurately for you, the concept of qi, and using EFT with the pendulum, there are many other chapters that I think you’ll find very interesting and helpful.

Obviously, I want you to buy the book, so I’m not going to let you see everything now. But you can read a selection of the following, which I really believe you’ll find interesting:

·        How to use the pendulum as a surrogate for someone else

·        How to identify and resolve past traumas

·        How to clearly identify your problem

·        How to formulate significant goals

·        How to test foods

·        How to test remedies and supplements

·        How to overcome the fight-or-flight response

The book also includes lots of material and information to help you resolve your issues and develop yourself personally and professionally, including:

·        Evaluating your levels of stress in different areas of your life

·        Identifying the activities that give you the most energy

·        Protocols for mini self-therapy sessions

·        A full self-therapy protocol

·        Various ways of working with the materials

·        Numerous highly effective kinesiology corrections

There are techniques adapted from NLP as well, such as how to give problems inherited from your parents back to them; and how to overcome allergies and sensitivities.

I was really gripped by this book. There are secrets here to share with the world, and he has shared them so beautifully. There is a wealth of information in the book which he has communicated in an extremely clear, well ordered fashion, making some quite difficult concepts easy to understand.

I really enjoyed the chapter on goal setting, and the way he explains the difference, and interrelationship, between an issue and a goal. From my Three In One background, I love the way he emphasizes the positive and teaches people how to get back the power of choice.

I did have reservations about the whole pendulum thing – I think Jonathan mentions at the beginning of the book about it being considered a bit 'foo-foo' – so I did wonder if those reservations might have formed a little prejudice in my mind. Once I'd let that go, and carried on reading, I realized from his explanations how easy it is to use the pendulum in quite a scientific way. Learning how to do that will be an invaluable tool for people to find out so much for themselves. This is a very precious gift Jonathan has given people, and by explaining how to apply the techniques in various situations, together with the many corrections he has explained, the gift is particularly precious.
